The Coffee Studio – Opening Update

We were beyond excited to open the doors to The Coffee Studio for you all. But alas, the new lockdown rules in Portugal have made it impossible.

Our original plan was to open February 3rd.

Then, when a new lock down was announced January 15th we actually thought we’d be able to open early for takeaway. Our plan changed to open a takeaway window starting January 22nd.

However, as many of you know, the rules changed again this week as the government established that more precautions were necessary. Included in the new rules was that establishments, like cafes and coffee shops, were no long allowed to sell drinks for takeaway.

And, honestly, it makes a bit of sense. Here in Lagos, we’ve seen so many people taking drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) from cafes and drinking them on the streets. We do wish they would have put the onus of the law on the people, rather than the businesses, though. We feel like it would have made more sense to ban eating and drinking in public spaces, rather than the sale of drinks. But of course, we respect the decision of the government.

So, What Now?

The honest answer is: we don’t know.

We have everything in place to open as soon as the lockdown ends – or the government allows the sale of drinks for takeaway again. So as soon as we are legally allowed to be, we’ll be open. Our staff is anxiously waiting to open the doors (or windows) for service. We believe in the product we have here at The Coffee Studio, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

At the moment, the lockdown is set to last until the 30th of January. But, it’s common belief that will last at least another 15 days on top of that. So we’re hopeful that we’ll be open again by February 13th or 14th. Maybe in time to have a cheeky Valentine’s Day latte with someone special.

What About Delivery?

We have talked about offering delivery service via Uber Eats. But the rates of commission on Uber Eats are so high that it just doesn’t make sense for us right now.

Can You Buy Coffee Beans / Grinds?

Yes!

Though we can’t – due to the new rules – sell coffee beans or ground coffee for takeaway, we can sell via delivery. So, if you’re interested in purchasing some coffee here in the Lagos area, head over to our main page where you can buy coffee beans.

We have a great selection of beans from our friends at Al-Gharb. As far as we know, they are the only roasters in The Algarve and do an incredible job.

You can order our beans either whole or ground your preferred way.

See You Soon!

Like most businesses in Lagos, we’re just excited to start moving towards the end of the lockdown and seeing familiar faces. We hope you are all staying safe. And we’ll see you all when we can!
